Custom Mini Artificial Hedges for Events or Restaurants

Custom Mini Artificial Hedges for Events or Restaurants

Custom mini artificial hedges at Charity event

Custom mini artificial hedges in faux planters define space for special events or restaurants and retail stores. Event coordinators use standard size eight foot tall artificial hedges at a variety of events and event venues as space and privacy dividers. The shorter mini hedges are not used so much for privacy, but for defining space and adding a decorative flair to an enclosed space.

Recently, an event in Los Angeles used mini artificial hedges for their VIP booth at an important charity event. The handsome faux mini hedges in planters set the VIP booth apart from the other booths at the event. The VIP area was also walled off with the larger 8’ tall artificial hedges.

The event business is huge in Southern California with trade shows, charity events, fundraisers, and sporting events happening nearly every weekend and several times during the week. Vendors constantly seek new ways to make their products stand out from the competition. Artificial boxwood hedges add color and texture to any event.

Custom Mini Artificial Hedges Uses

  • Trades shows
  • VIP areas
  • Restaurant dividers
  • Patios
  • Sidewalks cafes

Custom mini artificial hedges make great permanent fixtures at restaurants or retail spaces also. The small faux hedges are easy to move and are perfect for sidewalk cafes that set up and break down each day. Outdoor patios at restaurants employ them as space dividers. The hedges look very realistic and customers may not even realize they are faux.

Geranium Street USA manufactures mini artificial hedges with material they import directly. UV rated artificial hedges are great for outdoor use and won’t fade in intense sunlight. Geranium Street sells artificial hedges and all kinds of other artificial plant products nationwide, and their associate company, Evergreen Event Rental, rents the artificial hedges throughout California. They also have a new location in Austin Texas.

Artificial Replacement Hedge Wall at Hyatt Regency in San Diego

Artificial Replacement Hedge Wall at Hyatt Regency in San Diego

Existing trellis at Hyatt Regency

The Hyatt Regency in downtown San Diego recently updated a trellis they had by their swimming pool when they removed the real hedge and installed an artificial replacement hedge. The real hedge was an ongoing problem and required ongoing maintenance. The leaves kept dying and falling into the pool and jacuzzi, which caused problems there. The management finally realized that artificial hedge was the solution to their problem.

The pros at Geranium Street USA supplied the UV rated artificial boxwood hedge for the job and installed it. There are many companies selling artificial boxwood hedge mats, but not all of them are the same. Like with anything else, you get what you pay for, and the cheapest is rarely the best. Cheaper brands fade quickly in the California sun, and Geranium Street only sells the very best artificial plant products, which they import directly from Asia.

Hedges and other real plants next to swimming pool often cause a problem. Pool maintenance people spend hours and hours getting leaves out of pools, and then fixing the pumps that are clogged with leaves. That is why many pool owners surrender and replace their real hedges by the pool with artificial hedges. Artificial hedges are maintenance and water free, and they look great.

Finished installation of artificial replacement hedge

Artificial Replacement Hedge Versus Real Hedge

  • Requires no maintenance or water
  • Leaves don’t fall into pools and spas
  • Will not die
  • Looks great all year long
  • One time expense

The trellis at the Hyatt Regency was already in place, so all they had to do was remove the live hedge and install the artificial replacement hedge. Artificial hedge is easily installed onto any existing wall, or even wood fence. If there is no existing structure, the pros at Geranium Street can custom design and build one.

Artificial hedges require less maintenence

Outdoor Privacy Dividers for Restaurants and Coffee Shops

Outdoor Privacy Dividers for Restaurants and Coffee Shops

Artificial hedge for privacy booths

Exciting new outdoor privacy dividers made with artificial plants are in style for restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, and other public spaces. Custom made artificial boxwood hedges create a barrier between diners, enhancing their dining experience and providing a comfortable level of privacy. These exciting artificial plant barriers look realistic and add more life than traditional wood barriers.

We have all been to restaurants and coffee shops and felt like we were sitting in a fishbowl. Every bit of your conversation is overheard by the people at the next table, and you hear every bit of theirs. Some restaurants think this is an efficient use of space to maximize profits, but that is short sighted thinking, because people don’t want to return to a crowded noisy space. Smart restaurateurs think of the long term and create spacious and private dining spaces for their patrons.

Dave Alfieri has designed restaurants for upscale restaurant chains all over the country. “We are seeing a trend, especially for upscale restaurants, where people don’t want to spend their hard earned dollars eating in a barn. The old chains that tried that approach are dying. Now, people want to dine in spaces that offer a higher level of comfort and privacy,” Alfieri said.

Artificial boxwood hedges, custom designed, are relatively inexpensive compared to other types of building materials. Southern California company, Geranium Street USA builds artificial hedges for all kinds of commercial and residential properties, usually as privacy dividers. The artificial hedges add life and color to bland spaces, at the same time allowing a certain amount of light to pass through.

Artificial Hedges define space

Geranium Street president, Robert Smith employs some of the smartest designers, welders, and builders to perfect the manufacturing process. “When we first started we didn’t really know what we were doing, but have learned through trial and error, what works and what doesn’t. That includes using the best materials, that don’t rust or fade. Right now, our products are better than they have ever been,” Smith added.

Artificial Hedges Used to Define Space and Create Privacy

Artificial Hedges Used to Define Space and Create Privacy

Artificial Hedges define space

Restaurants, hotels, and event venues use artificial hedges to define space and create privacy. Groups often book areas within certain venues for fundraisers and other types of events, and they need to be blocked off from other areas within the space. A hotel manager explained it this way – “We have all kinds of groups, booking all kinds of events, and those groups don’t always mix well with our other hotel customers – so we create a private space within a space,” he said.

Artificial hedges are perfect for creating private areas either within a building, or on the exterior. The hedges look like real hedges, are attractive, and a tall enough and thick enough to assure privacy. The artificial hedges are easy to setup and breakdown also. Event rental companies rent the hedges, or sometimes venues buy their own and store them away until they are needed.

Weddings, fundraisers, trade shows, and other types of events often require a secure area outside the view of normal business. Hotels and restaurants want to host these types of events while conducting their day to day business, and the artificial hedges make that possible. Receptions, cocktail parties, and mixers, function perfectly inside their defined space.

Define Space with Artificial Hedges

  • Block off areas for private events
  • Use for crowd control
  • Create privacy zone
  • Use for decorative purposes

For large events, the portable artificial hedges serve as barriers for crowd control. Event promoters use the hedges to direct crowds into certain area, and also to hang banners and promotional materials. In some cases, the artificial hedge walls are purely decorative and used to enhance a theme at certain kinds of events.

Artificial Hedge Fence Surrounds Rooftop Deck in West Los Angeles

Artificial Hedge Fence Surrounds Rooftop Deck in West Los Angeles

AC units and rooftop view before install

When property owners built a rooftop deck in West Los Angeles, they decided the view was less than ideal, so they installed an artificial hedge fence around the area. Although the rooftop deck looked very nice, the rooftop below was covered with utility boxes and ugly AC units that were not very pleasing to the eye. The owners wanted something that would block the unsightly view and not cost a fortune. They decided to use outdoor artificial boxwood hedge.

Outdoor artificial hedge mats are made from durable polyurethane and looks extremely realistic. Different leaf styles and shades of green are available. UV rated artificial hedge mats will not fade in the sun or deteriorate under extreme weather conditions. The plastic artificial hedge mats affix to any flat surface or installers can build them as freestanding.

For the West Los Angeles installation, designers first built a wood frame around the rooftop deck. Hedgemat installers then installed the artificial boxwood hedge mats onto the wooden frame and onto an existing fence, effectively blocking out the unsightly views. From the street, the artificial hedge fence looks like a real hedge. From the rooftop deck, the artificial hedge fence looks like a rooftop oasis.

Installation of Artificial Hedge Fence in progress

Artificial Hedge Fence Advantages

  • Relatively inexpensive to install
  • Looks like a real boxwood hedge
  • Low Maintenance
  • Blocks unsightly views
  • Enhances privacy

In some cases, property owners install artificial hedge fences to block out incoming views. Privacy is a big issue in the city, and especially on rooftop balconies where people are completely exposed. Just as the artificial hedge wall in West Los Angeles blocked out unsightly views, other artificial hedges create a privacy barrier from those looking in. The artificial hedge wall in West Los Angeles also created a sound barrier from the nearby 405 freeway.

Fake Hedges Block Unpleasant Views on Rooftop Balcony in West LA

Fake Hedges Block Unpleasant Views on Rooftop Balcony in West LA

Fake hedges used to block AC units in West LA

Property owners in West LA decided to improve their rooftop balcony used for entertaining and they installed fake hedges to block out unpleasant views of surrounding rooftops. Lets, face it – the view from most rooftops includes ugly air conditioning units, power lines, and tar paper. While it is nice to enjoy a view from atop a perch, sometimes the view is ruined by utility boxes and chaotic sites unseen from the ground.

At the West LA building, the property owners wanted the rooftop balcony area to hold fundraisers and entertain donors. The rooftop is located close to the 405 freeway, and on clear days you can see all the way to the ocean. It is a perfect place for entertaining, but several large air conditioning units on top of the building make for a less than pleasant view.

The property owners decided to build a frame around their rooftop balcony and install fake hedges to block out the unsightly views, not necessarily to block incoming views. The fake hedges are constructed with artificial boxwood hedge mats that are designed for outdoor use and won’t fade in the sun. The artificial boxwood hedges look like real hedges, but don’t require the ongoing maintenance. Problem solved in West Los Angeles.

In another installation, property owners installed artificial hedges around a noisy air conditioning unit that sat next to a rooftop pool area. The fake hedges sometimes mask pump houses, utility boxes, and other necessary but not eye pleasing fixtures. Artificial hedge attaches easily to any flat surfaces, or free standing units can be custom constructed.

Artificial Green Wall Covering Accent West Hollywood Apartment Building

Artificial Green Wall Covering Accent West Hollywood Apartment Building

Architectural Trellis in West Hollywood

The owners of a West Hollywood luxury apartment building installed artificial green wall covering to accent the exterior of their building. Residents and neighbors all agree the upgrade really brought the building to life. The best thing about this decorative addition is that it didn’t cost a fortune and is completely low maintenance.

Artificial green walls are the newest architectural trend – especially in upscale areas like West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Scottsdale, and Palm Beach. New manufacturing techniques of artificial plants produce more durable products than ever before. Artificial boxwood hedge designed for outdoor use installs on any flat surface and works well for decorative and practical purposes.

Artificial plant mats are available in a variety of leaf styles and shades of green. For the West Hollywood installation the owners chose small leaf artificial boxwood in medium green. Most people driving or walking by the building have no idea that the green walls are in fact artificial. The artificial hedge mats are UV rated and guaranteed not to fade in the sun.

Uses For Artificial Green Wall

  • Interior/ exterior accent
  • Privacy screen
  • Block unsightly views
  • Add texture and color
  • Graffiti prevention

In some urban areas where graffiti vandalism is a constant problem, property owners install artificial green walls for graffiti prevention. Graffiti vandals target all flat walls over and over again. Property owners have to constantly repaint walls as new graffiti appears nightly. Surprisingly, vandals leave the artificial green walls alone and move on to easier targets.

Architects and landscape designers have discovered the artificial green wall as a solution to many of their problems. One big advantage is that artificial green walls are relatively inexpensive to install compared to other types of construction materials. Architectural Trellis in West Hollywood Simulates Hedge

Architectural Trellis in West Hollywood Simulates Hedge

Architectural Trellis in West Hollywood

A luxury apartment building in West Hollywood was upgraded with an architectural trellis that resembles live boxwood hedge. The decorative touch was designed with artificial boxwood hedge and really makes the building stand out. Artificial boxwood hedge designed for outdoor use is an attractive, low maintenance option for decorative and privacy purposes.

The owners of the property were unhappy with the bland appearance of their building, and were looking for unique options for exterior decor. Artificial boxwood hedge is popular as a wall covering and can also be constructed as free standing. At the West Hollywood apartment building, artificial boxwood hedge was attached to lattice to give the appearance of a three dimensional live hedge.

This was a relatively inexpensive way to upgrade the property, and add a bit of greenery to the exterior. Residents and neighbors love the new appearance, and it fits with the theme of the luxury building. Many of the residents don’t even realize the hedges aren’t real. The beauty of the artificial hedge is that it requires no maintenance or water.

Architectural Trellis Ideas

  • Decorative accent
  • Block unsightly views
  • Privacy screen
  • Reduce echoes
  • Simulate greenery

This type of architectural trellis is often used as a privacy screen to either block out unsightly views on adjacent properties, or to keep outsiders from looking in. In some cases the faux hedge is used to prevent graffiti in areas where that is a problem. At the building in West Hollywood, adding the artificial hedge helped reduce echoes.

Boxwood Hedge Panels at Consumer Electronics Show

Boxwood Hedge Panels at Consumer Electronics Show

Boxwood Hedge Panels on roof of Linq Hotel

Last week at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, one event coordinator rented over 50 4’ by 8’ artificial boxwood hedge panels to accentuate a lavish party. The Consumer Electronics Show takes place over several days in Las Vegas every year and hosts thousands of visitors, trade shows, and industry parties. One such corporate event took place on the roof of the fantastic new Linq Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

The industry standard for artificial boxwood hedge panels are the 4’ by 8’ tall panels that sit in faux wooden bases. The panels weigh just over 100lbs and are usually transported via truck and then moved with hand dollies to where they are set up. Event coordinators use the hedge panels for a variety of reasons, including crowd control, blocking off unsightly views, and for strictly decorative reasons.

For the event on top of the Linq Hotel, San Marcos, California based company, Evergreen Event Rental transported 50 artificial boxwood hedge panels to Las Vegas and installed them on the roof of the hotel. The event company installed a tent on the roof of the hotel for the industry party, and the artificial hedge rentals lined the outside of the tent. Wind was an issue on top of the hotel and Evergreen pros bolstered the hedge panels with sand bags and lumber.

Backyard Privacy Ideas for McMansions in the Los Angeles Area

Backyard Privacy Ideas for McMansions in the Los Angeles Area

Climaleaf artificial hedge for outdoor use

McMansions, those humongous multi story homes that fill up entire lots, have neighbors searching for backyard privacy ideas. All around Los Angeles, huge new homes replace older, smaller houses, leaving next door neighbors scrambling to maintain their privacy. There are expensive solutions and less expensive solutions to this problem.

In the past, a six foot fence or block wall would be tall enough to maintain backyard privacy. Not so today, with the popularity of McMansions. Today, an eight foot fence is the norm. There are ways to increase the height of existing fences and walls that will not break the bank. Of course, some residents don’t care about the cost, they just want an attractive and effective solution to their privacy problem.

Artificial boxwood hedge is one affordable solution to privacy issues in Los Angeles neighborhoods. Artificial hedge looks like real hedge, is designed for outdoor use, and can be installed onto existing walls and fences. The advantage of artificial hedge as opposed to real hedge is that it can be installed immediately, and requires no maintenance or water.  Artificial boxwood hedge in Los Angeles

Artificial Privet Hedge Becoming Popular in Beverly Hills

Artificial Privet Hedge Becoming Popular in Beverly Hills

Artificial Privet Hedge at Mondrian Hotel

Artificial privet hedge is a faux version of the live privacy hedges you see all over exclusive areas, and is becoming quite popular in tony Beverly Hills. You will still see towering live hedges surrounding many properties throughout the area, but for various reasons, residents are going artificial in much of their landscaping. Drought in California, high maintenance costs, and security issues have spurning the popularity of fake plants.

For many of the residents of Beverly Hills, money is no issue – they can afford to pay exorbitant water and gardening bills, however, money is not the only consideration. Many property owners in Beverly Hills, Bel Aire, and surrounding neighborhood are concerned about security and liability. They don’t need bad publicity about being water hogs, hiring illegal labor, or resulting lawsuits from accidents on their property.

Artificial Privet Hedge on Beverly Hills property

Landscape designers and architects realize that artificial plants make sense and especially since the quality is so much better than it ever was. The new artificial privet hedge looks extremely realistic, and is designed for outdoor use, so it won’t fade in the sun or be affected by the elements. As you visit properties in Beverly Hills, you may be surprised by the amount of artificial turf and plants infused into the landscape.

Artificial Privet Hedge Advantages

  • Low maintenance
  • Added privacy
  • Low liability
  • Increased security
  • Looks realistic
  • Durable

Artificial privet hedge easily installs onto almost any flat surface, or can be custom constructed as free standing. Home owners wishing to raise the height of a wall or fence can use artificial privet hedge to raise the height of their wall by up to two feet. Often that is enough to keep the nosy tourists, paparazzi, and neighbors from peering in and taking pictures.

Artificial Hedge Wall Offers Solution to Block Nuisance Neighbors

Artificial Hedge Wall Offers Solution to Block Nuisance Neighbors

Artificial boxwood hedge in Los Angeles An artificial hedge wall is a relatively inexpensive solution to block out unsightly views of nuisance properties and also create a privacy barrier. This is the age of McMansions and houses are getting bigger and bigger, so privacy is now more of an issue than ever in many neighborhoods. On top of that, some of these monstrosities are just plain ugly to look at – they ruin the aesthetic of the neighborhood, and there is very little property owners can do about it.

Growing real hedges can take years, not to mention a lot of water and maintenance. Building a wall or tall fence is also very expensive and may also look plain ugly – creating a prison effect. Artificial hedge walls look like real hedges and are relatively inexpensive to install.

The artificial hedge wall is made with artificial boxwood hedge mats, a steel frame, and is often placed into a faux planter of either wood or steel. In many cases, these faux hedges can be installed without acquiring a building permit, because they are not permanent fixtures.  Artificial hedges can be affixed to existing walls or fences, or they can be used as fence extensions. The other option is to install freestanding artificial hedges.

Artificial Hedge Wall Advantages

  • Relatively inexpensive
  • Affix to existing walls or fences
  • Install as freestanding
  • Low maintenance
  • Increased privacy

Like anything else, there is a big difference in quality when it comes to artificial boxwood hedge mats. It is important to use only UV protected artificial boxwood hedge material, or it will quickly fade in the sun. Some inferior products fade quickly, or turn brittle and deteriorate in the elements. The steel frames may rust quickly if they are not painted with rust proof paint.

Privacy Pods Developed for Legal Marijuana Growers in California

Privacy Pods Developed for Legal Marijuana Growers in California

Marijuana plants grow beneath fence extension

Marijuana plants grow beneath fence extension

New privacy pods for backyard marijuana growers will soon be available in California following the recent passage of proposition 64. California voters voted in Proposition 64 on November 8th, that allows recreational use of marijuana in the state. Sections of the law will not go into effect until 2018, but adults in California can grow up to six marijuana plants for personal use effective now.

Medical marijuana is currently legal in California, and has been for over a decade, Medical marijuana card holders can legally grow marijuana plants for their personal use, but now all adults in California have that same privilege.  Millions of adults over the age of 21 can now legally grow marijuana in their homes, in their backyards, or on their balconies for their personal use, without fear of being arrested.

Many of the law’s provisions remain vague. For instance, local governments have much of the say  on how the law is enforced. Communities can ban dispensaries within city limits, but they must allow individuals to cultivate up to six plants for personal use. Municipalities can also limit personal marijuana cultivation to indoor only, but in some locations  growers can plant outdoors, as long as it not in plain sight.

Artificial ivy for privacy pods

Artificial ivy for privacy pods

Privacy Pods

  • Designed for backyard or balcony use
  • Allow plants up to six feet tall
  • Camouflaged with artificial vines and ivy
  • Allow natural in
  • Discourage theft

Geranium Street USA is currently developing fence extensions and grow pods for legal weed growers in California. The weather is ideal for marijuana farming and outdoor cultivation is more cost effective than indoor growing. Privacy is an issue, however. The law maintains that marijuana plants stay hidden from view. Another concern is that marijuana plants attract thieves.

Fence extensions solve the privacy problem in most cases. Geranium Street installs fence extensions that add from one foot to four feet in height to existing fences or walls. Artificial hedge fence extensions look very realistic and add the needed height for privacy. Geranium Street’s privacy pods allow marijuana plants to grow over six feet tall, while camouflaged with artificial vines and ivy.

“We expect alot of interest in our fence extensions and grow pods as Proposition 64 kicks into gear,” said Geranium Street owner, Bob Smith. For more information, visit their website, or call sales manager Martin Portilla at (760) 891-6492.

Climaleaf Artificial Hedge for Versatile Use

Climaleaf Artificial Hedge for Versatile Use

Climaleaf artificial hedge mats

Climaleaf artificial hedge mats

Climaleaf artificial hedge is an amazing new product on the artificial plant market that gives the competition a run for its money. A lot of the artificial boxwood hedge currently available is manufactured with cheap materials and it rapidly fades and deteriorates in direct sunlight and outside elements. Climaleaf artificial hedge mats are specifically made for all extreme climates, both indoor and outdoor.

Artificial hedge made with inferior ingredients is like cheap carpeting – it looks good when it is first installed, but a year later needs replacing because it doesn’t hold up. Like anything else, you get what you pay for and cheap artificial hedge mats don’t stand up to extreme weather conditions. We know that many climates are brutal to all kinds of manmade and natural materials. The sun is relentless during the day, and then temperatures turn frigid at night, causing many manmade materials to deteriorate. .

Artificial plant mats from Climaleaf come treated with the best grade UV protectant available. While the competition just sprays the protectant on like sunscreen, but then similar to sunscreen, it washes and wears off. Climaleaf employs durable polyurethane that has the protectant applied to the mix during manufacturing and that makes all the difference. Climaleaf artificial hedges can survive intense sunlight, with no physical deterioration or fading.

The Climaleaf Artificial Hedge Difference

  • Resistant to fading.
  • Approved for indoor/outdoor use
  • UV protectant baked into plastic
  • Resistant to extreme hot and cold
  • Low maintenance

Extreme droughts conditions in California and all up the West Coast have changed attitudes about  landscaping. Property owners replace their traditional yards with either xeriscapes or artificial turf.  Artificial hedge and artificial trees are also popular because they are low maintenance and require no water. Buyer beware, however, because here is a big difference in quality. For this reason, Climaleaf came about – as a superior alternative to all of the cheap and low quality artificial plants out there. Climaleaf artificial hedges are built to last.

Artificial Boxwood Hedge for Balcony Use

Artificial Boxwood Hedge for Balcony Use

Artificial hedges designed for balconies are trending right now, especially in urban areas where privacy is an issue. Urban condo and apartment dwellers living in high rise buildings often feel like they are constantly on display. Either they have to have their shades drawn at all times, or they are not comfortable sitting on their balconies because their neighbors can see their every move. Now there is an attractive and relatively inexpensive solution –  boxwood hedges for balconies.

rooftop artificial boxwood hedge in Los Angeles

Building codes, HOA rules, and other pesky regulations often prevent condo owners from modifying their properties in any way. Building any kind of permanent barrier is often discouraged or prohibited. However, condo owners and apartment dwellers can place plants and other moveable objects onto their balconies for purposes of privacy. Artificial boxwood hedges can be placed in faux planters and they require no special permission and building permit.

Artificial boxwood hedge is made from durable polyurethane and can be purchased with UV protection for outdoor use. From a distance, this looks like a live boxwood hedge. Artificial hedges can be custom built to almost any specification. Condo owners can had a foot or two as a privacy barrier on their balconies, and it looks like a real hedge.

Often, real plants are difficult to cultivate and maintain. They have to be watered, trimmed and fertilized. Most people in the busy urban environment don’t have the time, patience, or knowhow to nurture real hedges and plants. This is where realistic artificial plants come in – they are virtually maintenance free.

Purposes for Artificial Hedges

  • Balcony privacy
  • Add greenery
  • Safety barriers for pets and children
  • Decorative flair
  • Sound proofing

Another reason to install an artificial hedge onto a balcony is to protect pets, and/or children from accidentally falling or jumping off. Many barriers built onto balconies are extremely short and they offer little protection against falling for pets and children. Some balconies are designed in such a way they are even unsafe for adults. Building an artificial boxwood hedge is an easy and relatively inexpensive solution for that problem.

A swank hotel in Los Angles purchased several artificial hedges in planters to create a new seating area in their pool area. The artificial hedges are 8’ high by 4’ wide and sit in wooden planters. The hedges are easily moveable and do not require a building permit to install. This is a relatively inexpensive to alter any space temporarily or permanently.

Artificial boxwood hedge mat is becoming a very hot commodity at many exclusive hotels and restaurants. It looks very realistic and adds texture and color to any flat surface. Some restaurants are covering entire walls with the fake hedge as part of their “green” theme. The artificial hedge adds an elegant touch to any property.

Artificial Boxwood hedges for rental are built the same standard 8’ by 4’ size. The faux planters that the fake hedges sit in can be made out of wood, fiberglass, or steel. Event rental companies are renting the portable artificial hedges for weddings, premiers, conventions and other events. The wedding planner told the people at Evergreen that the artificial privacy hedges were the most important element in the wedding.

Geranium Street manufactures the standard size 8” tall by 4” wide artificial boxwood hedges. Event companies use these same portable fake hedges at events nationwide. Geranium Street USA has added some extra features into their rental hedges that other companies don’t have. For the Lake Tahoe event, they also used wind stabilizers to keep the hedges from blowing over.

Fence Extensions for Backyard Privacy

Fence Extensions for Backyard Privacy

Fence extension with artificial hedge

Fence extension with artificial hedge

Many home owners are installing fence extensions to increase their back yard privacy. As McMansions spring up all over Southern California and elsewhere, many property owners are scrambling for solutions to their new privacy issues. Also, fence extensions may be necessary for the safety of children and pets. Now, there is a relatively inexpensive way to increase the height of an existing wall or fence that looks great – artificial boxwood hedge.

Artificial boxwood hedge is sold by the square foot and can be purchased for outdoor use. There are different leaf types and shades of green available. Artificial boxwood hedge looks very real, and many people are completely fooled by it. The material is perfect for making a foot or more fence extension that looks like a real section of hedge.

Artificial hedges can also be custom built and used as privacy barriers. Many condo owners are putting them on their balconies to block out the view of their neighbors. Rooftop balconies also often need privacy barriers, especially in the city. Artificial boxwood hedge mats are attached to steel wire frames and affixed to structures, or left as free standing. Building an artificial boxwood hedge usually doesn’t require a building permit.

Ground Up Construction Creating Privacy Issues

Ground Up Construction Creating Privacy Issues

Fence extension with artificial hedge

Fence extension with artificial hedge

Ground up construction is a new phenomena in real estate which has brought us the “McMansion” and a range of new privacy issues. The new homes being built in older neighborhoods fill up whole lots, and are much taller than the older tract homes. This creates many disputes in neighborhoods as new privacy issues arise. Artificial plants are one solution to privacy problems.

As the new McMansions sprout up in neighborhoods, six foot high fences are suddenly not tall enough. New balconies may look right into a neighbor’s back yard. Likewise, unsightly views of a neighbor’s property may alter the experience of a new home. Strategically placed artificial trees, or hedges may be the solution to that problem.

The artificial plant specialists at Geranium Street Floral recently worked with a Los Angeles real estate developer to beatify the back yard of one of new ground up construction projects. The unsightly crack stucco wall back wall of an apartment building faced the back yard of the new home. Geranium Street installed an artificial hedge onto that wall, that now looks realistic, and greatly improves the back yard experience.

Ground Up Construction

  • Completely demolish old structures
Build much larger structures on same lot
    Often new structures are taller
    Modern floor plans
Privacy issues due to increased size

Artificial plants are advantageous to new construction projects because they can be installed quickly and permanently, and relatively inexpensively than real plants. Artificial palm trees for instance, can be installed in an afternoon for much less than a real transplanted palm tree. An artificial boxwood hedge can be installed in one day and then left alone – no water, clipping, or maintenance.

Artificial Foliage New Fix for Privacy

Artificial Foliage New Fix for Privacy

Unsightly wall before install

Unsightly wall before install

Artificial foliage is being used to prevent privacy problems in yards, especially with the advent of “McMansions.” Artificial hedges, artificial trees, bushes, and topiaries are being used at remodel projects when privacy issues keep popping up, as home get larger and taller, ever encroaching on their neighbors. Real trees and vines are nice, but not always practical, and may take time to cultivate.

Many housing developments built in past decades had cookie cutter style ranch homes that were all one story and roughly the same size. Zoning laws have changed and many of the old houses are being torn completely down to ground and new homes are constructed that are twice as large as the original structures. The result is that suddenly neighbors have no privacy as the monstrous McMansions tower over surrounding backyards.

Real estate developers realize that this is problem and often try to alleviate it before there are complaints and neighborhood disputes. Well placed artificial foliage can prevent a lot of turmoil. Artificial hedges placed on balconies can block out unwanted views, or keep people on the outside from looking in. Artificial trees and bushes can be used for the same reason. These simple fixes are relatively inexpensive compared to building walls and other types of barriers. Sometimes the strategically placed branches of an artificial tree can do the trick.

Artificial Foliage Increases Property Value

  • Increases privacy
    Blocks out unwanted views
    Looks very realistic
    Prevents neighborhood disputes
    Decreased maintenance costs

Artificial foliage often serves two purposes – it is decorative and serves as a privacy barrier. Often there are ugly walls of an adjoining property that would be better blocked out. Who likes to look out there back window at their perfectly landscaped backyard, only to see the ugly block wall and cluttered yard of the next door neighbor. The solution may be to install an eight foot tall artificial hedge. It looks like a real hedge and blocks out the unsightly view.

Artificial foliage nearly completed

Artificial foliage nearly completed

Geranium Street Floral recently worked with a Los Angeles Real Estate developer to beutify an unsightly backyard view at a property she was revamping. The back yard bordered a large apartment building with an ugly, cracked and fading stucco wall two stories high. They were able to install artificial boxwood hedge on the wall, creating the illusion of a real hedge, and blocking out the ugly wall. This is just one example of how artificial foliage is used to increase property value.

Amazingly Realistic New Replica Plants

Artificial White Agave

Artificial White Agave

Manufacturers have really stepped up their game and have made several new replica plants that push the boundaries of reality.  These faux plants look so real that they trick even the most trained eyes. Sometimes even when people touch them, they are still fooled.  These artificial plants are made for indoor and outdoor use and will look good almost anywhere they are placed.

The artificial white agave plant is a replica of the Mexican white agave plant. This artificial succulent can be placed in a vase or faux planter and will bring a bit of exotic greenery to a reception area, living room, or patio. This artificial plant can be placed somewhere and then left alone, not requiring any water or maintenance.

Artificial White Sago Palm

The artificial white sago palm is another exciting and exotic artificial plant now available. Now, even people in northern climates can have a palm on their patio or inside their property. Once, again, the manufacturers of this plant have created a masterpiece – it is that realistic. Just place it in a planter or vase and forget about it.

The artificial white palm is another amazing creation of artificial plant makers.  Palm trees have been significant to people since biblical times. Real palms can only grow in warm climates, and can be problematic to maintain. Artificial palms can thrive in any climate and cause no problems.

Artificial White Cypress

The artificial white cypress tree is another gem of a replica plant. The miniature cypress tree will dress up any patio, balcony, or front yard. Your neighbors will wonder how and where you got these exotic looking trees. Once again, plant and forget about it – these artificial plants require no water or maintenance.

Imitation boxwood hedges were installed in various places throughout the new Great Maple restaurant in Torrance, California. Great Maple is a new exciting addition to the Del Amo Mall in Torrance, and is the third great Maple restaurant in Southern California, joining its predecessors in San Diego and Newport Beach. Artificial hedge is used throughout the restaurant to enhance the décor.

Artificial boxwood hedge has become popular as a wall covering and is also used to build freestanding artificial hedges.  Many restaurants are using faux boxwood hedges to create privacy walls, and just to add a touch of greenery. Atmosphere is very important to the restaurant industry and artificial hedges help to create a theme.

At Great Maple, they used artificial boxwood hedges to create privacy barriers on the outdoor patio booths. This not only creates a level of visual privacy, but helps to muffle sound and reduce echoes. We have all been in restaurants where we have to shout at each other, the acoustics are so bad. Artificial boxwood seems to improve acoustics.

Artificial boxwood hedges were also used at Great Maple to conceal service areas from diners. Diners at the new restaurant do not have to see bins of dirty dishes, coffee stations, or computer terminals where servers enter their orders. These areas are blocked off by attractive artificial hedges. The artificial hedges at the new Great Maple location were custom built by San Marcos based company, Geranium Street Floral.

Robert Smith started Geranium Street Floral as a small company that would supply artificial plants and flowers to equestrian events, but by accident found out there was a huge demand for these products by architects and designers.  Before long, Smith was even taking trips to China to meet directly with manufacturers to keep up with the demand.

“We have discovered that although many of these products may look alike, they are not comparable in quality. We have discovered through trial and error, which products are the best and that is all we carry now. Some of the early products we purchased were fried by the sun with six months outdoors,”Smith said.  You can see Geranium Street’s full line of artificial plant products at their online store.

All of these fantastic events require barriers for crowd control, privacy, and atmosphere. Artificial boxwood hedge panels are being used at many of these events.

The standard size for artificial hedge rentals is 4’ wide by 8’ tall. These artificial hedges are tall enough that they block out the view of unwanted guests, or block out unsightly views to guests. At some of these large events, like movie premiers, event companies may use 100 artificial hedges to build a huge hedge wall. Hollywood Boulevard

Artificial hedge panel rentals are in high demand for large events like trade shows, premiers, and concerts. Artificial boxwood hedge panels are decorative, but also double as privacy walls, barriers, and for crowd control. The standard size of artificial hedge panels is 4’ wide, by 8” tall, and they sit on a wood base.

All of the major event companies in Southern California are stocking the artificial boxwood hedge panels because they are in such high demand. In Los Angeles, where movie premiers, openings, and all kinds of trade shows are happening daily, event companies compete to meet the demand.  Often, whole sections of a street, parking lot, or yard must be blocked off for these exclusive events.

Artificial boxwood hedge panels that stand eight feet tall block out the view from stalking paparazzi, uninvited guests and children.  The fake hedge panels blend in well with existing grass and vegetation, creating a more natural look than traditional event barriers. The artificial green walls also make excellent photography backdrops.

Many companies holding events want to hang their large banners on something, and the 8’ tall hedge panels are often the perfect place to do that. Artificial hedge panels can be used to enclose a space at a trade show or convention and make that vendor stand out from the others. Often, people strolling by the artificial hedge panels don’t even realize that they are artificial.

Often the faux boxwood hedge panels are used to block out a view that is not conducive to an event. Maybe they can be used to block out a utility box, or an ugly urban view just across the street.  The large hedge panels can be used to keep prying eyes out, or to create a pleasing atmosphere for guests.  Either way, the artificial hedge panel rentals do the job and look great.

Geranium Street Floral has started a new program in the Southern California area, including San Diego and Los Angeles. They have started a furniture exchange, where different companies in the area can rent artificial hedge panels to each other – that way each company does not have to stock hundreds of panels. Geranium Street will keep a certain number of panels on hand for rent, and then will help facilitate rentals for all of their customers. This is a the perfect solution for many large events, and allows event companies to make money on their artificial hedge panels when not in use.

Artificial hanging vines are being used by businesses and local governments to dress up properties and to prevent graffiti. The artificial hanging vines look like real ivy, but require no maintenance or water. These attractive artificial plant items are easy to install and will last for years.

Concrete block walls are everywhere. Often, they look boring, and even shabby. They are targets for graffiti vandals, and they require constant repainting. Often, property owners have grown ivy on these walls and that is an improvement, but the ongoing drought in California has curtailed that. One solution is to install realistic artificial hanging vines.

Artificial ivy vines can dress up a boring block wall, and add a little greenery into the concrete jungle. Many urban areas have experience urban blight, and the property owners and local governments are doing everything they can to beautify the blighted areas. Installing artificial ivy is relatively inexpensive compared to other options.

Geranium Street Floral has imported the best artificial hanging vines and is selling them at their online store. They can also install them throughout Southern California. Faux ivy is being used to camouflage unsightly utility boxes, block walls, and ugly fences. Artificial ivy is being used to beautify industrial areas and also deter graffiti. Business owners and municipalities have discovered that artificial ivy works better for these purposes than almost anything else on the market.

Large utility boxes, pump houses, air conditioning units, can be easily covered up with artificial ivy and nobody knows that they are even there. We have all seen these ugly electrical boxes sitting around and they are just unsightly. They stick out like a sore thumb. Once they are covered with artificial ivy they blend into their environment much better.

Graffiti prevention is a big deal that costs business owners and tax payers billions annually. City governments and business owners spend countless man hours painting and repainting walls, only to have them defaced again by graffiti vandals.  Now, artificial ivy offers another solution that works much better.

Faux ivy is also being used as privacy screen on chain link fences, wood slats fences, and wrought iron gates and fences. This is a relatively inexpensive way to make and existing fence a privacy fence. Real ivy is great, but takes time to cultivate and maintain. Faux ivy can be installed quickly and then takes almost zero maintenance.

Artificial ivy is being used for many industrial and municipal applications, including graffiti prevention. Artificial ivy can be used for privacy and security purposes, beautification, and graffiti prevention. Many businesses are also using the artificial plant products after years of repainting surfaces, only to have them tagged again the next day.

Graffiti prevention in many urban areas is a losing proposition. Almost any flat surfaces get marked up by graffiti vandals. Business owners, home owners, and municipalities spend hundreds of man hours repainting surfaces, buying special paints, and pulling their hair out. Now, there is another solution that seems to be working better than any other – artificial ivy.

Artificial ivy can be applied to walls, fences, and almost any flat surface. Graffiti vandals usually move on to better surfaces, where their tags can be seen.  Considering the cost of paint and labor, the initial expense of artificial ivy is relatively inexpensive. Artificial ivy that is UV rated will not fade in the sun and will last for years in all kinds of weather conditions.

Artificial Ivy Industrial Uses

  • Graffiti prevention
  • Privacy
  • Block out unsightly views
  • Cover utility boxes
  • Cover wrought iron and chain link fences

Artificial ivy is also used by municipalities and businesses to block out unsightly views in their industrial yards. This keeps unsightly views hidden and also prevents thieves from seeing what is inside a property.  Urban blight attracts crime and many areas are attempting to clean up their outward appearance.

Liquor stores have an extra incentive in the state of California to prevent graffiti. The state liquor board requires any business that has a liquor store to clean up graffiti on their properties within 24 hours, or face stiff penalties. For businesses holding liquor licenses, the artificial ivy has been a godsend.

Real ivy works just as well, but is not always practical. It takes long to grow and then must be maintained and watered. Fake ivy requires almost zero maintenance once it is installed, and requires zero water. Most people walking or driving by don’t even realize that the faux ivy is not real.

Geranium Street Floral of San Marcos sells and installs artificial ivy for industrial use. Call them today for an estimate based on square footage. Their online store has many great photos and all kinds of artificial plant products for practical and decorative purposes.

Portable Artificial Privacy Hedges for Restaurants

Portable Artificial Privacy Hedges for Restaurants

Artificial hedge wall blocks off service station

Portable artificial privacy hedges are being used by restaurants for a variety of purposes. The standard size for portable privacy hedges is 8’ tall by 4’ wide. These portable artificial hedges can be easily moved around the restaurant by two employees, or pushed on castor wheels or skid plate.  These hedges can be used to partition off areas for private parties, photography backdrops, and to block off utility areas.

One boutique hotel in upscale Santa Monica purchased several portable artificial privacy hedges for their courtyard restaurant. They had castor wheels installed onto their portable fake hedges so that they could be easily moved by one employee.  The restaurant uses the hedges to block off private parties from the rest of the restaurant, and to repurpose space during special events.

In one instance, this particular restaurant used an artificial hedge wall to create a service station for waiters and busboys on the patio, outside the view of patrons.  This use could be temporary, or more permanent, but a building permit is not required because the artificial hedges are moveable. They are also relatively lightweight.

Geranium Street Floral has made a niche for itself as a company by building custom artificial boxwood hedges. The 4’ by 8’ hedges are the standard size used by event companies all over America, and are built by many different artificial plant companies. Though the hedges look pretty much the same, some are constructed better than others. Geranium Street uses the best materials for their portable hedges, including steel wire frames painted with rust proof paint, UV rated artificial boxwood hedge mats, and repurposed wood bases. Geranium Street installs hard plastic skid plates on all of their fake hedge walls, and installs castor wheel when requested.

They can easily move the artificial hedge panels on castor wheels from one area of the restaurant to another. They can close off certain areas of the restaurant for VIP parties, conferences, or presentations.

This particular hotel in Santa Monica requested that their hedges be equipped with castor wheels for easy movement.  Other portable fake hedges have plastic skid plates on the bottom of their bases, so they can be easily slid across concrete or floors. The artificial hedge panels are relatively lightweight also, and can be easily moved with a dolly by one person, or picked up and carried by two people.

The El Dorado Faux Boxwood Topiary Tree

The El Dorado faux boxwood topiary tree

The El Dorado faux boxwood topiary tree

The “El Dorado” faux boxwood topiary tree is part of the Madera Collection from Geranium Street Floral. El Dorado was that mythical city of gold of ancient lore that the Spanish conquistadors were searching for and never found. The El Dorado artificial topiary tree symbolizes similar quests for wealth, adventure, and mystery.

Created by San Diego artist Bo Cameron, the El Dorado is a decorative piece influenced heavily by early Spanish settlers to California, as well as the mysticism of Carlos Casteneda. “When I was younger I was very much into the writings of Carlos Casteneda, and mysticism. I wanted to incorporate that into this piece,” said Cameron of the El Dorado. “This tree might be something Don Juan would have encountered on his travels,” added Cameron.

The El Dorado is planted in a repurposed wood base, has Mexican pebble as filler, a Manzanita wood burl and stalk, and is topped off with a 36” artificial boxwood topiary ball. The faux boxwood topiary tree stands over six feet tall and is bound to create conversations wherever it stands. This decorative topiary tree is designed for outdoor use, but may find a home inside a five star restaurant, ritzy hotel, or in the lobby of a high rise office building.

The El Dorado artificial topiary tree combines natural and unnatural objects, as do all the amazing items in the Madera Collection. Artist Bo Cameron loves working with Manzanita wood and often spends his weekends hiking the arid hills of Southern California, searching for the perfect scraps of rugged Manzanita wood and the unique burls. He then polishes and treats the wood, which may take decades to deteriorate.

The faux planter base is constructed with repurposed wood. Artist Bo Cameron also searches the junk yards of San Diego looking for scraps of wood and metal to fashion his art work from. Nothing goes to waste in the art world of Cameron. “I am so glad I found this guy. His philosophy matches ours so closely.” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith.

Geranium Street Floral commissioned Cameron to create the Madera Collection, as they expand into the highly specialized world of interior and exterior design. “There is a huge demand for these kinds of products when they are done right. We have already sold one piece to a luxury hotel in Los Angeles,” said Geranium Street’s president, Bob Smith.

“Los Hermanos,” are two matching artificial topiary trees that are a part of the amazing Madera Collection from Geranium Street Floral. Los Hermanos translated into English from Spanish, means the brothers.  These two amazing decorative topiary trees are meant to stay together as bookends because they complement each other like twin brothers. These two trees can be placed at an entrance, or an exit – almost anywhere to delineate a space.

San Diego Artist, Bo Cameron designed Los Hermanos topiary trees for the Madera collection and they are the only two piece set in the collection. “I think in the art and architecture and landscaping world, there are recurring themes of pairs – think of the aches of Notre Dame, The Petronas Towers, or even the former Twin Towers,” said artist Bo Cameron. He explained that Los Hermanos is designed to invite, to greet, or even to bid farewell.

They might look great on a rooftop balcony of a luxury apartment building, or at the entrance to a corporate headquarters.

Geranium Street Floral hired Bo Cameron to create the Madera Collection as they discovered the high demand for decorative pieces by their corporate and residential clients. “The great thing about these topiary trees is that they are low maintenance. They don’t require any maintenance, pruning, fertilizer, or water,” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith.

The “Cipriani,” is the artificial cypress tree topiary created by artist Bo Cameron as part of the Madera Collection from Geranium Street Floral. The Madera Collection is a collection of decorative pieces that combine artificial foliage with natural elements and weathered steel of repurposed wood. The Cipriani is a rustic, yet classic piece and is suitable for outdoor or indoor use.

The Cipriani has three 5’ artificial cypress trees , a repurposed wood base, an elk antler structure, and also features drift wood taken from the beaches of Mexico.  This is the largest decorative piece in the Madera Collection and will look good in somebody’s front yard, on a commercial property, or even on a rooftop balcony. The Cipriani is another example of the genius of San Diego artist, Bo Cameron.  The artificial cypress tree that is used in the piece looks and feels incredibly real.

Elk antlers and Mexican drift wood

“I wanted to create something that had a Mediterranean flair to it, yet uniquely American,” said Bo Cameron of the Cipriani. Cypress trees bring to mind the arid hillsides of Spain, or Italy, and even the even the California Coast, which replicates the Mediterranean coastline in many ways. The elk antlers, harvested from the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming lend a western flair to the piece.

“We get the elk antlers from a contact I have in my home state of Wyoming,” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith. “I want to stress that no animals are harmed harvesting these antlers. Elk drop their antlers annually and they are laying all over the mountains up there,”  Smith added. Elk antlers are extremely durable and will last for decades.  Mexican driftwood adds to the piece and blends well with the elk antlers.

The Lorax artificial topiary tree

The Loraux artificial topiary tree

The “Loraux,” is a decorative topiary tree that is part of the exciting Madera Collection from Geranium Street Floral.  Inspired by the popular book by Dr. Seuss, the Lorax utilizes elements from the natural and unnatural world. The Loraux was designed by San Diego artist, Bo Cameron for Geranium Street.  This decorative artificial topiary tree has a weathered steel base, Mexican pebble filler, a natural Manzanita wood stalk, and features a 19” and 36” artificial boxwood topiary balls.

Dr. Seuss wrote “The Lorax,” because he was angry about the natural environment was being destroyed in favor of industry.  In the book, the Lorax was actually the imaginary creature who spoke for the endangered “Truffula trees”, after the “Sneeds,” industry virtually wiped them out.  Artist Bo Cameron was greatly inspired by Dr. Seuss as a child and also in art school.  The Loraux artificial topiary tree is homage to that.

“As I studied art, I noticed many recurring themes and shapes throughout the history of painting and sculpture. Those included spheres, triangles, and balls. If you look at the great works from the surrealist movement, or cubism, you will notice these recurring themes,” said Cameron, who started out as a serious student of the surrealist movement. Cameron started out as a painter, and then moved on to created art from mixed mediums.

“We are surrounded everywhere by beautiful objects in the natural and the unnatural world. Why not combine them to make something uniquely beautiful,” said Cameron. Cameron met Geranium Street Floral president Bob Smith at a La Jolla art show and their collaboration began.  “Bo Cameron is the MacGuyver of the art world. Give him a few objects, any objects, and he can create something fantastic,” said Smith.

Introducing “The Yaqui,” Artificial Topiary

The "Yaqui" artificial topiary tree

The “Yaqui” artificial topiary tree

The Yaqui,” named after the Yaqui Indian Tribe in Mexico, is an artificial topiary decorative piece created by artist, Bo Cameron. “The Yaqui,” is made with a combination of artificial and natural materials, and can be used for interior or exterior décor. “The Yaqui,” has a weathered steel base, Mexican pebble fill, features a Manzanita burl, a natural elk horn stalk, and two artificial ivy leaf topiaries.

Bo Cameron is a local San Diego artist who has mastered many different mediums. He started as a painter, moved onto sculpture, and now does many interesting interior and exterior design pieces from different mediums. Geranium Street Floral president met Cameron right at a La Jolla art show and was so impressed with him, he hired him right away to create the “Madera Collection,” for Geranium Street.

“Bo is so talented. He can work with so many different mediums, and he was just what I was looking for to design the Madera Collection,” said Smith. “If you look at art history, and especially the surrealist movement, you will see the topiary, or sculptured plant as a recurring theme. We wanted to continue that tradition with our Madera Collection,” added Smith.

Bo Cameron was influenced by masters like Salvador Dali, the great surrealist, versatile master, Pablo Picasso, and even the great Dr. Seuss. The Yaqui mixes the real and the unreal to create the surreal. This amazing piece will look good in an office lobby, on a veranda, or in nightclub. It will surely be a conversation piece wherever it lands.

Topiary tree from the Madera Collection

Topiary tree from the Madera Collection

Artist Bo Cameron grew up in San Diego and was inspired early on by the works of Salvador Dali, Picasso, and Dr. Seuss. It went to art school and studied painting, but eventually found his medium to be metal fabrication, sculpture, and design with natural elements. Bo scoured the beaches for pieces of drift wood to use, and the hills of San Diego County for pieces of Manzanita wood for his designs.

Likewise, he looked for decorative stones, succulent plants, and other interesting objects to make center pieces and other decorative objects with. Bo was soon sought out by the top event planners in San Diego to create his interesting designs. He also sold his wares at many of the local art shows in San Diego, and throughout Southern California.

Geranium Street Floral president, Bob Smith ran into Cameron at a La Jolla art show and was fascinated by his use of natural and manmade objects. The two men got to talking and they decided to collaborate. The result of their collaboration is the exciting new Madera collection just in time for the 2015 fall season.

Decorative pieces from the Madera Collection

Decorative pieces from the Madera Collection

The Madera Collection consists of several unique decorative pieces made using natural and artificial elements. These exciting pieces can be used for interior or exterior design. They might adorn a swank new restaurant, or night club, or they might be at home in someone’s foyer, or on the veranda. They can be mixed in with real plants, or stand alone as a new “species”.

Bob Smith of Geranium Street is a native of Wyoming and brought many elk antlers from his home state. Elk antlers are abundant in the mountains in several western states, since the large animals shed their antlers every year. No animals have to be killed to harvest the antlers. The elk antlers are virtually indestructible and will last forever, and they lend themselves for all kinds of creative ideas.

Bo Cameron used natural elements, including elk antlers, Manzanita wood, drift wood, decorative stone in creating the Madera Collection. He also implemented artificial plants like artificial topiary balls, artificial cedar trees, and other artificial plants from the Geranium Street product line. He then fabricated faux planters from scrap metal to give the pieces a rustic look. Some faux planters were fashioned with wood.

“We are very excited about this Madera Collection. I think our clients will be excited as well. I can see these pieces being used at commercial properties like restaurants and hotels. I can also see them in people’s front yards, back yards, and even inside their homes.  They are real, fake, and surreal, all in one,” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith.

Fake hedges are showing up at all kinds of events in the swankiest venues of the West Coast.  Portable artificial boxwood hedges are being used at weddings, at trade shows, and extravagant parties all over Southern California. The faux hedges make excellent photography backdrops, temporary barriers, and regal decorative pieces at important events.

Event rental companies have reported a huge demand for the portable faux hedges. They are lightweight, easily portable, and they look like real hedges. Brides, event planners, and prop masters are requesting the artificial hedges for conferences, weddings, and even television productions.

Geranium Street Floral of San Marcos California has been building the artificial hedges for many of Southern California’s biggest event rental companies. “We have had to add extra  production shifts and hire extra workers to keep up with the demand,” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith. They have completed several large orders of the artificial event hedges in the past few weeks.

Event planners for large corporate events and trade shows are willing to pay top dollar for artificial hedge rentals. Likewise, event venues can rent the fake hedges for various events like weddings over and over again. One celebrity client in Beverly Hills rented 200 artificial hedges and made a hedge maze in his back yard for a lavish Halloween party he was throwing.

  • Decorative pieces
  • Advertising and promotion

“The standard size for our artificial event hedges is 4’ wide by 8’ tall. They are constructed with light weight steel frames and artificial boxwood hedge mats.  They have painted wooden bases, with skid plates on the bottom that make them easy to move,” said Smith. The hedges weigh less than 100 pounds and are easy to move with a dolly.

Geranium Street Floral  also rents the fake hedges in the San Diego area, and is planning to expand their rental business to Los Angeles and possibly Las Vegas, where 100’s of big events are held every year. “The big corporations are going to keep having trade shows and conventions in Las Vegas, so we want to get in on that business,” said Smith.

Custom Artificial Topiaries as Decorative Pieces

Custom Artificial Topiaries as Decorative Pieces

Artificial topiaries could be the unique decorative pieces interior decorators have been looking for. Geranium Street Floral has hired a new designer and he is crafting decorative topiaries with artificial plants, natural Manzanita wood, drift wood, and even elk antlers.  These custom decorative pieces are truly unique and will certainly be conversation pieces wherever they are placed.

Real topiaries throughout history signified wealth, luxury, and even royalty. Topiaries were crafted from boxwood hedges to look like various shapes and even animals. Skilled landscape craftsmen were employed full time by the various estates to prune and maintain all of the fantastic foliage. This is why normal people could not afford to grow and maintain elaborate hedges and topiaries.

Today, some of the artificial plants being manufactured look incredibly real. Sometimes people have to touch them to determine that they aren’t real, and even then, they may not be so sure. Artificial plants, when combined with natural elements, like drift wood or antlers, look incredibly attractive. These make unique decorative pieces that you have not seen before.

Geranium Street made the first decorative artificial topiary with artificial cedar trees and real elk antlers. North American Elk shed their antlers every year, so there is an abundance of antlers, and no animal has to be killed to get them. The artificial cedar trees look incredibly real and they are accented nicely by the elk antlers, in a faux vase.

The second decorative artificial topiary was constructed with real Manzanita wood, harvested in San Diego County, and artificial topiary balls. They artificial and natural items were placed in a faux base and backdrop. The result is something that looks extremely surreal.  Is this a plant from outer space? It looks modern and hip, but classic at the same time.

Artificial boxwood hedges can be installed onto almost any flat surface, or they can be constructed as free standing.

Temporary construction barriers are now being covered with attractive fake hedge material. This looks so much better than plain wooden barriers, and makes the construction process so much easier on the neighborhood. The fake hedge material does offer a little noise buffer, as sound waves are deflected off the porous material.  People have reported missing the temporary fake hedges once they are gone. The artificial hedge material can be used over and over again on different jobs.

Artificial Boxwood Hedge Perfect for Parklets

Artificial Boxwood Hedge Perfect for Parklets

Parklet in San Francisco

Parklet in San Francisco

Parklets are becoming popular in many big cities across the nation, and artificial boxwood hedge the perfect accessory.  Parklets are small areas where parking spaces have been converted into extended seating areas, that can be used by patron of resurants, or coffee shops, among other types of businesses. The idea behind parklets is to make neighborhoods more pedestrian friendly and to create a sense of community in neighborhood people usually just drive right through.

Pilot programs where parklets have been implemented in cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles have reported a quite positive response. Businesses adjacent to parklets have reported a dramatic increase of sales. Parklets have done brought more people to the neighborhood, and the people tended to stay longer.

The designs of parklets vary dramatically, just as neighborhoods vary dramatically. Some parklets are built of heavy wood and concrete materials and seem like permanent fixtures, while others have a more lightweight and temporary feel.  Most parklets have outdoor furniture, which the businesses take in at night. In Los Angeles a restaurant may apply to install a parklet in front of their business, and they may put tables and chairs there for their patrons to dine at, but they are not allowed to do table service or serve alcohol.

Parklets of course are situated right on the street, so patrons are exposed to road noise and exhaust. Artificial boxwood hedge is the perfect solution for that. Artificial boxwood hedges are lightweight, maintenance free, and can be constructed to diffuse noise and light. Artificial boxwood hedges also look very realistic and add color and texture. Faux bowood hedges are also relatively inexpensive compared to other building materials.

When Faux Florals Make Sense

When Faux Florals Make Sense

Artificial trees at Penthouse level

Artificial trees at Penthouse level

Faux Florals made today look more realistic than ever and they are also more affordable than ever.  New manufacturing techniques have made realistic looking artificial plants and flowers easier to mass produce. Whereas in the past, many artificial plants were made of silk, which required much hand labor, the new faux florals are largely made of durable plastic.

So, many people over the years had a negative reaction to faux plants in general.  Either they felt that artificial plants looked entirely fake, and the ones that did look real were way expensive. Now, some of the artificial plants made today fool even the most ardent skeptics. Are they real or fake? Sometimes, people can’t even tell by touching them.

Artificial bush in fiberglass planter

Many interior designers and landscape designers have discovered that artificial plants make sense in many situations. Artificial plants especially look good when combined with live plants. They blend in well and then it is very hard to tell what is real and what is not.  Sometimes, live plants are just not practical, and require too much maintenance and are hard to grow, or take a long time to grow.

Artificial boxwood hedges have become quite popular. Since real hedges are not always possible or practical, artificial hedges can be crafted onto existing walls and fences, or they can be easily constructed as free standing. In some cases, artificial hedges are being used as temporary dividers at events or construction sites, and they look much better than plain temporary walls.

Artificial trees are looking better than ever before.  Artificial trees may be placed in key areas, either to block a view, or to add color and texture to a space. Live plants and trees promote a sense of calm and well being in a work space, and studies have shown that artificial plants have a similar effect.  Real trees can be problematic on a rooftop balcony for instance, but artificial trees are easy to maintain, and don’t grow.

Artificial Hedge Used as Anti Graffiti Material

Artificial Hedge Used as Anti Graffiti Material

Back apartment building wall defaced with graffiti

Back apartment building wall defaced with graffiti

Artificial hedge is an attractive and effective material for anti graffiti purposes. Commercial property owners, local governments, and even home owners have tried everything trying to prevent persistent tagging by gang members. Graffiti resistant paint helps, but is not a long term solution.  Live hedges and vines are also an effective solution, but are not always practical. Installing artificial boxwood hedge and vines may be the answer that property owners plagued by graffiti are looking for.

Graffiti is an ongoing problem and costs tax payers and property owners millions per year in prevention and clean up costs. One particular wall may have to be repainted 20 or 30 times a year.  You can drive around any neighborhood in San Diego, or Los Angeles and see patches of paint on walls, overpasses, and signs where graffiti has been painted over. Often, by the next day, graffiti appears again.

Artificial boxwood hedge can be installed on almost any flat surface.  While it is possible, somebody could spray paint it, taggers and graffiti artists will usually move on, looking for surfaces that are easier to deface. Artificial boxwood hedge looks like real hedge from a distance and at night when graffiti vandals often do the most damage.

Even fences can't stop taggers

Even fences can’t stop taggers

Urban blight is a big problem for small businesses and property owners. When left unattended it attracts more crime and vandalism into the area. Property values plummet. Business owners lose sales because customers are afraid to visit their establishments. Apartment buildings become dangerous slums when graffiti is pervasive. Not to mention, local ordinance that require removal of graffiti within a certain number of days.

Anti Graffiti Measures

  • Exterior walls that are prone to graffiti
  • Temporary construction barriers
  • Apartment Building walls
  • Alley walls
  • Mediums overpasses
  • Storefronts
Worker installing fake hedge

In some cases, business owners are installing artificial hedges on entire store fronts. For anti graffiti purposes, artificial hedge is often installed on walls and buildings up to six feet high. This prevents most graffiti. Taggers move on to an easier target. Alley walls, and exterior security walls at apartment buildings are often tagged repeatedly, and installing artificial hedge may be the solution. Likewise, contractors are installing artificial hedge on their temporary construction barriers to prevent graffiti.

Geranium Street Floral of Southern California is one of the country’s top distributors of anti graffiti artificial boxwood hedge and other artificial vines. They directly import their products from factories in Asia, and sell at wholesale prices to contractors all over the country. They have six different types of artificial plant mats available at their online store. While the initial cost of installing artificial boxwood hedge may be high, it will pay for itself over time, when property owners don’t have to keep repainting.

Artificial Plants for Graffiti Prevention

Artificial Plants for Graffiti Prevention

Graffiti defaces business wall

Graffiti defaces business wall

Many businesses and municipalities are now using artificial plants for graffiti prevention.  Graffiti is a serious problem in many areas and costs business owners and governments millions per year to combat. Often, a wall may be defaced one day, repainted the next, and then defaced again the day after that. Graffiti not only costs money to remove over and over, but it drives away customers, attracts other vandalism and criminal activity. This leaves business owners and local governments scratching their heads on how to solve the problem.

Obviously, law enforcement officers can’t be everywhere at once and graffiti vandals have plenty of opportunity once the sun goes down to do their damage on flat surfaces. Special paints have been developed that make graffiti removal easier, but it is a never ending battle painting and painting over graffiti. Another method of graffiti prevention is to plant thorny plants in front of walls, and that method is more effective.

Not every business can plant live plants and maintain them however. The quicker way to prevent graffiti is to install artificial vines and hedge mats onto the flat surfaces where graffiti vandals frequent. Although it is possible for vandals to still deface the artificial plant material, it is more difficult, and vandals often move on to easier targets.

Graffiti on alley wall

Graffiti on alley wall

Businesses are installing artificial hedge mats onto block walls that have been defaced over and over again, and suddenly graffiti is no longer a problem. The initial cost of the artificial hedge material pays for itself as graffiti removal and repainting costs go way down.  The artificial hedge walls not only prevent graffiti, but they are attractive in their own right – especially in areas of urban blight.

Graffiti Prevention Ideas

  • Apartment building walls
  • Schools
  • Construction sites
  • Highway mediums
  • Retail establishments
  • All block walls

Construction sites where they often put up plain plywood barriers were often targets of graffiti vandals. Contractors have discovered that artificial boxwood hedges look great as a construction barrier and discourage graffiti.  Graffiti prevention is a costly but necessary proposition, and most businesses and government, realize you either pay now or pay later.

Are Artificial Plants Dangerous for Outdoor Use?

Are Artificial Plants Dangerous for Outdoor Use?

Artificial Cypress trees

Artificial Cypress trees

The question often comes up – are artificial plants dangerous for outdoor use?  The answer is yes and no. Cheaply made artificial plants can be highly flammable and will burn quickly and hotly once ignited by a spark, cigarette, or even lightning. Artificial plants treated with fire retardant however do not ignite easily. They are not entirely fire proof and will eventually burn in a full scale fire, but they will not be the catalyst for a fire to start.

Artificial plants, including artificial hedges, artificial trees, artificial flowers, and bushes, vary in quality just like anything else. Some manufacturers make cheap products that look good, but are inferior otherwise. Some manufacturers even claim that their products are fire resistant, but they aren’t.  Many unsuspecting customers see how great the products look and buy them based on price alone.

Likewise, some artificial plants are advertised as UV rated, and are not really. Artificial hedges, trees, and flowers will fade in the sunlight if they are not properly UV protected. Spray on UV protectorant does not last and will eventually be washed off. UV protectorant must be added into the mix during the manufacturing process to last.

Geranium Street Floral has been selling and installing artificial hedges, artificial trees, and other artificial plants for over five years now and they have used different manufacturers trying to find the best products.“We learned the hard way that there is a big difference in the quality of these products,” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith. “We had to replace a container load of artificial hedge mat because it faded out within a year. That was not fun,” said Smith.

Smith has visited factories in China on two separate occasions and has seen the manufacturing process. He has made exclusive deals with manufacturers to get the very best artificial foliage available. This includes artificial plants that are UV rated and fire retardant.  This is particularly important for Southern California that is prone to wildfires.

As I mentioned before, many of the products look basically the same, but they aren’t the same. Artificial plants, like almost anything else differ greatly in quality.

High Quality Flame Retardant Artificial Plants

High Quality Flame Retardant Artificial Plants

Artificial hedge encases AC unit

Artificial hedge encases AC unit

High quality flame retardant artificial plants are available, but many people are fooled by cheap imitations. When it comes to buying artificial plants, just like anything else, you get what you pay for. Some companies are claiming that their artificial foliage is flame retardant and UV rated, when that isn’t the case at all. Different manufacturers use different techniques when it comes to adding flame retardant chemicals and UV protective chemicals into the mix.

Artificial hedges, artificial trees, and other types of artificial plants that are for outdoor use must be UV rated, otherwise they will quickly fade in the sun. Geranium Street Floral discovered this quickly when they first started selling artificial hedge mats, and they ended up replacing product for several of their customers. This prompted Geranium Street president, Bob Smith to seek other manufacturers that guaranteed their products.

“Many of the companies that sell these kinds of products in China make all kinds of claims that their products are UV rated, or flame retardant, when that just isn’t the case. We found that out the hard way,” said Smith. Since then, Smith has actually travelled to China and met with manufacturers directly to get the highest quality products available. “I think that now, we have some of the most durable and long lasting artificial plants there are available,” said Smith.

Worker installs privacy hedge

Worker installs privacy hedge

Flame retardant artificial plants are recommended in most cases. Anything will likely burn when held to a direct flame, but cheap artificial plants will ignite like a two month old Christmas tree. Quality flame retardant artificial foliage will not easily ignite, and will not easily burn when held to direct flame. “I stood there in factories in China and pulled out a lighter to see if their “flame retardant” artificial plants would burn. Sometimes they did, and I avoided those manufacturers,” said Smith.

Quality Flame Retardant Artificial Plants

  • Not easily ignited by lit cigarettes
  • Resistant to sparks and electrical fires
  • Resistant to lightning
  • May actually stop flames from wildfires
  • Better for most outdoor applications

Flame retardant artificial plants cost a little more money, but are well worth the extra expense. Flame retardant faux foliage is especially for outdoor applications, and areas where people congregate and may be smoking, like patios, or rooftop balconies.  Geranium Street Floral has been selling and installing artificial hedges, artificial trees, and other types of artificial plants for several years now. They know what types of artificial plants work for specific applications.

Landscape Design for Arid Southern California

Landscape Design for Arid Southern California

Artificial turf in backyard

Artificial turf in backyard

Now, after five years of serious drought, many Southern Californians are rethinking landscape design on their properties. Southern California has a semi arid climate anyway, but the drought  has been devastating.  Water restrictions have limited lawn watering to two days per week, which just doesn’t cut it for traditional yards. Californians are being asked to cut their water consumption by 30 percent, and the easiest way to do that is to cut out lawn watering.

Lawn watering accounts for up to 60 percent of the water consumption at residential properties. The same is usually true for commercial properties. The government of California is serious about cutting consumption. Many community water boards are offering state supplemented rebates as an incentive for people to replace their traditional lawns. Then there is the other side of the coin – the state is also considering punishments including fines, tiered water rates, and other measures to deal with water wasters.

So, what are the options for people who want to replace their traditional sod lawns and plants that are not suited for dry conditions. Many landscape design companies have sprung up offering xeriscaping. Xeriscaping utilizes native California plants, succulents, and possibly decorative stone, driftwood, etc. Some people really like this natural look, but then again, the yards that are xeriscaped are not the most comfortable to hang out in.

Xeriscaped front yard

Xeriscaped front yard

People who have children and pets hate to rip up their traditional sod lawns. Where will the kids and the dogs play. They hate the thought of having a desert diorama for a yard.  For these people, artificial turf may be the best alternative to a real yard.  The synthetic grass being manufactured today is of a much higher quality than the fake grass made in the past. The new artificial grass looks more realistic than ever, and there are varieties specifically designed for pets and children.

Landscape Design for Arid Climates

  • Xeriscaping, native plants and succulents
  • Decorative stone, gravel, wood chips
  • Artificial turf
  • Artificial hedges and trees
  • Combination of all the above

The landscape design pros at Geranium Street Floral believe in a landscape design for Southern California that uses a combination of all of these elements. Maybe do xeriscaping in the front yard, and artificial turf in the back. Put in a stone garden, Manzanita wood, and other interesting elements. Maybe use a combination of artificial turf, artificial plants, and native plants, and decorative stone. There are many exciting options that will look great and be water wise.

Artificial Turf Looks Natural in San Diego

Artificial Turf Looks Natural in San Diego

Brown lawn during drought

Brown lawn during drought

Artificial turf looks more natural than ever, and as lawns go brown all over San Diego due to the drought, many San Diegans are making the switch. Artificial grass has been laughed at and scoffed at for a long time, but now people are changing their attitude as California is in its fifth year of a serious drought. Also, many communities that once prohibited artificial turf are allowing it now.

Most communities in California are asking people to reduce their water consumption by thirty percent. That means watering lawns only two days a week. Most lawns in California need more water than that to remain green, especially as the summer rolls on and gets hotter and hotter. People who don’t comply with the water restrictions will be penalized one way or another.

New artificial turf lawn

New artificial turf lawn

Many Californians are realizing that it just doesn’t make sense to be watering lawns during such a water crisis. The options are:

  • Let your lawn die and remain brown
  • Paint your lawn green (some people are doing that)
  • Switch to xeriscaping with succulents and California native plants
  • Switch to gravel
  • Concrete over entire yard
  • Artificial turf

    Xeriscape

    Xerisape

Artificial turf is certainly one of the more attractive options and looks more traditional. People with children and pets usually prefer artificial lawns to xeriscaping for their needs.  Artificial pet turf is available specifically designed for pet use.  Artificial turf is not stained by pet urine and is easy to cleanup. Pets cannot easily dig through it either.

Some schools have installed artificial turf on their football fields, baseball diamonds, and in all their public areas. The initial cost is steep, but it pays for itself over time in savings from water and maintenance costs.  The same savings can be realized by homeowners, and there are rebates available from the state in many California counties.

In San Diego, there are many artificial turf companies, but there is only one company that also sells a wide range of artificial plants, including artificial boxwood hedges, artificial topiaries, artificial trees, and artificial flowers, and that is Geranium Street Floral. They have been doing installations of artificial plants all over California for years. They directly import all of their products, so there is no middleman.

The management company that operates a luxury apartment building in the heart of Hollywood recently upgraded their pool are using artificial hedge.  The pool are at this particular building is on the roof of the historic building that overlooks Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street with a stunning view of the Capital Records Building and the Hollywood Sign. The management wanted the cabanas to be covered with a material that allowed some sunlight to seep through and artificial boxwood hedge fit the bill. They also wanted to enclose a noisy air conditioning unit, and decided an artificial hedge would work for that as well.

Artificial boxwood hedge is showing up in luxury buildings everywhere.  Some of the top restaurants, lounges, and hotels in Southern California have used artificial boxwood hedge for practical and decorative purposes. It works well as a privacy screen, or as a way to cover an unsightly utility building, pump house, or in this case an air conditioning unit.

Artificial hedge looks real from a distance, and most importantly, it blends in and doesn’t call attention to itself. People don’t always know what they are looking at, and instead perceive that they are in a pleasing environment. Artificial boxwood hedge and other artificial plants often lend atmosphere.

At the Hollywood luxury apartment building, there were several cabanas at the rooftop pool area that weren’t covered. Often, cabanas are covered with canvas, but the management wanted something that would let air and sunlight seep through, yet look classy. Artificial boxwood hedge worked perfectly and as you can see in the picture, lets lots of natural light in.

The second part of the project was covering the noisy air conditioning unit next to the pool. The AC unit was in the middle of a rooftop planter. The designers at Geranium Street Floral built an artificial hedge to encase the air conditioning unit and deflect the sound away from the pool area. They used heavy grade polyurethane mat made for sound proofing on the interior of the faux hedge. The upgrade cut the sound from the AC unit easily in half.

Fake hedges for outdoor use

Bob Smith, president of Geranium Street , just returned from China where he visited several factories that produce artificial plants of all kinds.  The replicas they are making of actual plants are just amazing, and they have streamlined production, so they can make them cheaper than ever. Basically, when it comes to artificial plants, you are now getting more for your money than ever before,” Smith said.

Some of Geranium Street’s clients have requested custom hedges for privacy purposes. They had rooftop balconies that had no privacy and building artificial boxwood walls proved to be the best looking and least expensive solution. In other cases, people wanted to block unsightly outgoing views. Once again, artificial hedges were the most attractive and cost effective solution.

Fence extensions made from artificial boxwood hedge can add up to a foot of height onto and existing block wall or fence, and look like a real boxwood hedge. Customers have reported enjoying their backyards for the first time since installing their artificial boxwood fence extensions.  What a difference a foot of extra height can make and once again it is a relatively inexpensive solution.

Artificial Topiary Balls Add to Landscaping

Artificial Topiary Balls Add to Landscaping

Large artificial topiary ball

Large artificial topiary ball

Artificial topiary balls add a touch of class to outdoor landscaping and are being used at commercial properties, and private homes.  Topiaries made from real boxwood hedge have been used in elaborate landscape designs for centuries.  Landscape artisans worked live plants for years, meticulously shaping them and manipulating their growth.

Most people can’t afford to pay such artisans, and frankly it is becoming a lost art. Artificial topiaries exist today that look incredibly realistic, and they require almost zero maintenance. Artificial topiaires can be placed among live plants, or put into faux planters.  Most people will not even realize that they aren’t real.

Artificial topiary balls make great bookends at an entrance to create a regal look. Retail stores use them for that same reason – as welcoming bookends to the mark the entrance of a store. They look good in lobbies, on verandas, or even on a balcony.  They can also be placed in hanging planters and installed in key areas.

Artificial plants were once considered as tacky by many of the top designers, but that has all changed. The artificial and faux plants available today are so much better than they ever were before, and most are made out of a durable poly material that lasts forever.  The price for most artificial plants has also decreased, as mass production is easier than ever.

Interior designers are also using artificial boxwood balls in their designs. Faux topiary balls look good in living rooms, board rooms, are even fancy restrooms. Faux plants add to a relaxing atmosphere, similar to real plants. There is something psychologically soothing about faux plants in a work or retail environment.

Lawn Replacement Options During California Drought

Lawn Replacement Options During California Drought

Lake Meade, Spring 2015

Lake Meade, Spring 2015

Lawn replacement businesses are suddenly booming as Californians finally realize that the drought is indeed real. Recent rains in the state may make some people believe that the drought is over, but those rains, though very welcome, were only a drop in the bucket. California is in a trillion gallon water defect, and forty million people need water to survive.

In an effort to save water in both the short term and the long term, the state is offering rebates for people to replace their traditional grass lawns. Lawn replacement can mean artificial turf, gravel, concrete, or desert landscaping with natural plants. There are some very creative options out there now for people who want to replace their traditional grass lawns.

Some cities, like Glendale for instance banned artificial turf in front yards. They recently changed that law due to the drought. The fact is, there are some very realistic types of artificial turf available today.  In the past, people hated it because it looked very shiny and was obviously fake. The fake grass they are making today is not so easy to spot. Artificial turf companies are booming right now, and don’t even have enough product to keep up with demand.

Artificial hedge wall on patio

HOA’s are under pressure from the state to change their ways too. Some home owners associations are now allowing their residents to remove their grass lawns. The California drought of 2015 is no laughing matter and drastic measures are required. Lush, green lawns in California will soon be a distant memory. That is a good thing, because California is an arid climate, even in normal years.

Lawn Replacement Ideas

  • Rock gardens and rock streams

  • Desert landscaping

Geranium Street Floral of San Marcos is a company that has been dedicated to water wise landscaping for years. Bob Smith, owner of Geranium Street started an artificial turf company, but back when nobody wanted the stuff. He switched to importing and selling artificial plants, artificial hedges, and artificial trees. “I am all about implementing artificial plants with live plants and creative landscaping. It’s a good balance,” said Smith. Geranium Street has all kinds of exciting new artificial plant products to help California residents go water-wise.

Artificial privacy hedges in Los Angeles are becoming popular, because they look good and can be installed quickly. Whereas, live hedges make take months, or even years to grow, an artificial privacy hedge can be installed in an afternoon, and then requires almost no maintenance. Faux privacy hedges can be custom built as freestanding, or be applied to existing walls and fences.

There are different types of artificial privacy hedge available. Artificial boxwood hedge is popular, but there is also artificial living wall hedge mats available, artificial ivy, and artificial succulent mats. UV protected artificial hedges are guaranteed not to fade in the intense Southern California sun.  Different shades of green and leaf types are available.

Many people are installing artificial hedges as fence extensions. People can extend their existing fences or walls by a foot or more by installing artificial boxwood hedge. Home owners have reported that they can finally enjoy their backyards, rooftop balconies, and patios in privacy. There is nothing worse than living on a property and feeling like you are in a fish bowl.

The California drought of 2015 has many residents of the state rethinking their landscaping choices. Artificial privacy hedges also make sense, because they require no water. Many of the live hedges around Los Angeles are better suited for less arid climates, and require a lot of water to keep healthy. Upcoming water restrictions may change the whole landscape of Los Angeles within the next year.

The California Drought is Officially Over

The California Drought is Officially Over

Redondo Beach after storm

Redondo Beach after storm

The devastating California drought of 2015 is officially over as strong thunderstorms pounded the state on Thursday. More rain is expected on Friday with unseasonably cold temperatures throughout much of the state. This is good news for California home owners, HOA’s, golf courses, and agriculture. This means that everyone can go back to business as usual, watering lawns five days a week, watering driveways, and planting trees and flowers that grow naturally in tropical rain forests.

Of course, I am being facetious, but that is what I have noticed time and time again. One little rain storm comes through and Californians quickly forget about the severity of the situation. The rains in Los Angeles on Thursday were desperately needed, and some areas of the city received over an inch and a half of rain. However, the water deficit from the California drought is so bad, that we actually need several months of storms to catch up.

Even if we get El Nino, that could bring tons of rain for California, is it smart to go back to wasteful ways of the past? I think many people are in agreement, green lawns are no longer a good idea for California. State officials want to replace over 50,000,000 square yards of green sod lawns with more conservation minded landscaping.

Vertical green wall on San Diego rooftop

Vertical green wall on San Diego rooftop

What do people replace their old fashioned green lawns with, that doesn’t look entirely depressing? People are doing great things with succulents and native plants that are suited for the arid climate. Artificial turf, artificial hedges, and artificial trees are also added into the mix. The fact is, many artificial plants look better than they ever did before, are more durable and cost effective.

California Drought Really Over?

  • El Nino has arrived, or is on the way
  • Winter style, spring storm from Alaska dumps one foot of snow in the Sierras
  • Los Angeles and most of Southern California get pelted with rain
  • Unseasonably cool temps decrease evaporation
  • Pools get filled for free
  • Green at golf courses, slower than usual

The folks at Geranium Street Floral suspect that the California drought of 2015 is not really over, and in fact may last for several more years. Geranium street has scoured the world for the most realistic looking artificial trees, hedges, flowers, and topiaries. Most of their artificial plant products are suited for outdoor use.

Geranium Street designers are constantly coming up with new products that will be suited for the ongoing California drought. They recently built a hybrid living wall for an apartment complex in San Diego.  Geranium Street believes that adding artificial plants to waterwise landscapes is a very effective thing for California residents to do.

Artificial plants in Los Angeles are in vogue as the ongoing California drought puts the squeeze on the state’s water supply. There was a time, not so long ago, when residents of Los Angeles would not even consider using artificial plants in lieu of real ones, but the times, they are a changing. Artificial trees, grass, and flowers, may be more conservation wise than live plants, flowers, and grass that were never suited for the arid California climate.

Governor Jerry Brown has demanded that state water boards cut their consumption by 25 percent.  Last year he asked for voluntary cuts – this year he is demanding cuts. State agencies want people to tear up their grass. Most localities are offering generous rebates for residents to do so. People are replacing their grass lawns with native California plants, decorative stone, and artificial plants and trees.

Even upscale communities like Beverly Hills will have to change their ways. Water consumption in upscale communities is often three and four times higher per capita, than in less affluent communities. The state is going to issue strict fines and raise water rates to bring people into compliance. Fines can range as high as $500 per day.

Artificial boxwood hedges look hip, modern, and add needed greenery. Some businesses are even covering their entire store fronts with artificial boxwood hedge. Residential property owners have discovered artificial hedge as a way to make their yards look fantastic and extend their fences.  Los Angeles property owners are quickly discovering that artificial boxwood hedge is great for décor and privacy.

Artificial trees look more realistic than ever and are often used to add ambiance to commercial properties. Office buildings are installing artificial trees because they require no maintenance or water. Artificial fichus trees are popular, but other types are available, including artificial olive trees, artificial Cypress trees, and even artificial Maple trees.

A San Marcos based company, Geranium Street Floral, is a major supplier for artificial plants in Los Angeles. They have installed artificial boxwood hedges at several properties throughout the Los Angeles basin, Beverly Hills, the San Fernando Valley, and the Inland Empire. Geranium Street Floral imports their artificial plant products directly from Asia, and sells them from their online store and warehouse/showroom in San Diego County.

California Residents Seek Alternative Landscaping

California Residents Seek Alternative Landscaping

Artificial Cypress trees

As the drought in California reaches epic proportions, residents of the state are scrambling to come up with alternative landscaping solutions. Green lawns are going to go the way of the rotary phone and the VCR. The governor’s office is directing state water boards to encourage residents to replace 50 million square yards of green lawns with water-wise landscaping.

HOA’s (Home Owner’s Associations) have typically enforced strict landscaping codes, requiring residents to water their lawns and keep them uniform. A new law was recently passed that will prohibit HOA’s from enforcing those codes. HOA’s will likely have to change landscaping in common areas. That means grass around pool areas, parks, and golf courses.

Palm Springs and the surrounding communities will likely be affected in a big way. Those communities are consuming nearly 800 gallons of water per day, per capita. Whereas, residents in San Francisco are consuming less than 100 gallons per day, per capita. The days of lush green golf courses in Palm Springs may be over.

  • Artificial turf
  • Artificial trees and artificial hedges
  • Native plants and succulents
  • Stone tile

This will likely be a long, hot summer in California with snow pack in the Sierras only at 5 percent of normal. Many California residents haven’t yet grasped the severity of the problem and continue their wasteful ways. They don’t want to let go of their green manicured lawns. They may likely see their water bills double, and have to pay steep fines for wasting water. Pool owners will have to change the way they maintain their pools too.

Artificial plants and turf are more realistic looking than ever and can be used in place of traditional landscaping. Maintenance costs are also high for traditional yards – not only in water costs, bu gardening costs. The landscape in California may significantly change by the end of summer, 2015.

Reality is setting in for California residents during the ongoing drought and many are switching to artificial turf and other artificial plants for waterwise landscaping. Even some communities and HMO’s who once forbid artificial turf are changing their rules. Rebates are also available to ease the cost of landscape transitions.

There are many options available to alternative landscaping in California. Some residents are tearing up their grass yards and replacing them with native California succulents that don’t require much water. Others are replacing their yards with concrete blocks and gravel and have no greenery. Others are using a combination of native plants, artificial turf, and decorative stone.

We have all been to desert communities and seen the bleak dirt yards, and plain gravel yards. I think that most people would prefer something more aesthetically pleasing than that. While it might not be feasible to cover entire large yards with artificial turf, it may be good to cover portions of the yard with that. Small yards and strips of yard near the sidewalk look very good with artificial turf.

Rooftop artificial boxwood privacy hedge

After several years of devastating drought, Californians are finally realizing that they need to make alternative landscaping choices.  Even in affluent communities, many California residents realize they can no longer keep their massive and lush green lawns.  New water restrictions call for water conservation up to 35 percent.

Much of California is a considered a tropical Savannah, which means it is an arid climate in the first place. Many of the trees and plants that people have planted in California were never suited for the area. In years past, when water was plentiful, people never thought about their landscaping choices or worried about it. Californians no longer have that luxury.

The good news is that the state and various municipalities are offering generous rebates of up to $3.75 to replace grass lawns with drought resistant landscaping.  The other good news is that there are many exciting options when it comes to alternative landscaping. Landscape designers are working wonders with native plants, succulents, artificial plants, and decorative stone.

Drought Tolerant Landscaping

Artificial Cypress trees

As strict new water restrictions take effect in California, residents are scrambling for drought tolerant landscaping ideas. As California governor Jerry Brown said, the days of Californians having their perfect green lawns are numbered. Traditional green lawns are out, water-wise landscaping is in. There are many solutions, including native plants, decorative stone, and artificial plants.

Artificial plants, such as artificial hedges, trees, and flowers can be implemented among real native plants, decorative stone, and live succulents. Drought Tolerant Yards

  • Implement artificial plants
  • Remove traditional sod
  • Native plants and succulents
  • Driftwood, railroad ties
  • Decorative stone
  • Artificial hedges, and grass

Artificial grass makes sense in many cases, especially for smaller yards. People with pets often like artificial grass better than real grass because it easy to clean. Even despite the strict new water restrictions, people will be happy when their water bills are cut in half, due to no lawn watering.  Artificial grass varies in quality, so it is important to research it before buying.

Artificial trees now look more realistic than ever and are relatively inexpensive. Artificial fichus trees, artificial cypress, and artificial olive trees are available to create a green look for drought tolerant landscaping.  People who would never consider artificial trees before, are now changing their minds in light of the new water regulations in California.

The state of California and the various local water boards are offering great rebates to get people to tear up their traditional yards. The switch to water wise landscaping is on. It is not only a good idea for drought weary California, but it will soon be the law. 40,000,000 people and the state’s agriculture industry depend on it.

Home Owners Associations Worst Offenders During Drought

Home Owners Associations Worst Offenders During Drought

Palm Springs HOA

Palm Springs HOA

California water boards need to reduce water consumption by 20 percent, and Home Owners Associations throughout the state have been put on notice.  Home Owners associations, or HOA’s are some of the worst offenders when it comes to water usage in the state. Exclusive enclaves in Palm Springs, for instance use up to five times the state average in water per capita. State Water Boards are cracking down, and HOA’s will no doubt have to change their ways.

Green manicured lawns may be a thing of the past as strict new water restrictions in California fall into place. HOA’s require that residents keep a uniform, manicured look to their landscaping, and the grounds surrounding homes at golf course, are usually lush and green. Traditional landscaping will no longer survive with the new water restrictions.

Fake hedge in courtyard

Fake hedge in courtyard

Among some of the water regulations to come in effect:

  • No watering of sidewalks and driveways
  • Decorative ponds and fountains must recycle water
  • No lawn watering that allows runoff to other properties
  • Watering limited to two days a week
  • No filling of new pools, or refilling existing pools

There were times in the past when extensive tree planting was encouraged. The problem is that some of the trees that were planted or not native to arid climates. Tropical and exotic plants require way more water and are not suitable for arid climates like California. Also, annuals require a lot of water and are not a good idea for drought stricken California.

In the face of these extensive water restrictions, HOA’s will likely have to replace their landscaping. New water-wise landscape designs include artificial plants, decorative stone, and native succulents. New artificial trees, artificial boxwood hedges, and artificial turf look more realistic than ever and will last years with very little maintenance.

Geranium Street Floral is a San Diego County based company that has years of experience helping people with water-wise landscaping. They sell a whole range of artificial trees, including artificial olive trees, artificial fichus trees, artificial cypress trees, and artificial cherry blossom trees. They also carry several types of artificial hedges, including artificial boxwood, artificial succulent mats, artificial living wall mats, and artificial ivy.

Professionals at Geranium Street Floral are currently consulting with officials from the state water board, to come up with better landscaping choices to help Home Owner’s Associations fall into compliance.

Equestrian sporting events have been popular for centuries and there is a long tradition of jump courses and how they are designed. In the past, equestrian designers used all real plants and flowers, and that was both expensive, and problematic. Now, as artificial bushes and flowers are more realistic and durable than ever, equestrian course designers are switching to artificial plants.

Artificial bushes, and other artificial trees and flowers don’t require waters, and can be moved easily and used over and over again. UV rated artificial plants won’t fade in the sun, and are not damaged by water, or other extreme weather conditions.  People looking at artificial plants from the sidelines, usually have no idea they aren’t real plants.

  • Create window boxes
  • Equestrian jumps
  • Privacy barriers in restaurants
  • Decorate decks and patios
  • Balcony privacy barriers

Privacy is a big thing in the city, and artificial boxwood bushes can be used to create all kinds of privacy barriers.  High rise balconies are the only sanctuaries many city dwellers have and unfortunately are privacy challenged. Artificial bushes can be placed in faux planter and block unwanted views from neighboring buildings.  People can leave on extended vacations and the artificial plants require no water or maintenance.

Extensive new California water restrictions, enacted by Governor Jerry Brown as a result of the ongoing drought will undoubtedly force many Californians to change their landscaping.  Artificial plants will become more popular and a better choice for thirsty California. Creative landscapers can do all kinds of interesting things with artificial boxwood bushes.

Geranium Street Floral has recently updated their online store and they have all kinds of exciting artificial plants, trees, and flowers. They just received a shipment of artificial cherry blossom trees just in time for spring weddings. They also have new artificial olive trees, artificial cypress trees, and artificial fichus trees. Everything is available at their online store.

Landscaping in arid climates presents its own set of challenges, and artificial boxwood ads some greenery while maintaining water conservation. Artificial boxwood hedges are becoming very popular especially in desert areas, and areas affected by drought, like the entire State of California. There are many areas of the country where water is plentiful and natural greenery is everywhere, but not so in the arid Southwest.

Like it or not, many Californians will have to change their landscaping as their state is in a serious water crisis. The governor of California, Jerry Brown just announced sweeping water restrictions that will affect every person in the state of California. Residents, who have taken their green lawns for granted their entire lives, will now see their lawns go brown. The state is urging people to tear up their sod lawns and to replace them with water wise landscaping.

Many of the native landscaping designs need a little help, and that’s where artificial boxwood plants come in.  Block walls, fences, and decks can be accentuated with artificial boxwood hedge, artificial ivy and other artificial plants. Artificial plants compliment native plants and add more greenery to the landscape.

Some residents of arid climates are redoing their traditional lawns with artificial grass. Artificial boxwood compliments artificial grass very nicely. Artificial turf is especially an attractive option to people who have small yards, and pools in their back yards. Artificial boxwood hedge and artificial turf go hand in hand.

Artificial boxwood topiary balls, artificial boxwood bushes, and other faux foliage accessories all add to the mix. People who loved their traditional yards are discovering that they can be so much more creative with water-wise landscaping. The great thing about artificial plants is that they require no water, no trimming, no fertilizer, or cleanup.

Geranium Street Floral is the go-to company in California for artificial boxwood. They have six different types of artificial boxwood hedge material available. They also install artificial boxwood all over the state of California and build custom artificial hedges for their clients. They expect to be very busy, now with the governor’s recent water restrictions. The time has come for all California residents and businesses to rethink their landscaping.

Artificial Plants Make Sense Now with California Water Restrictions

Artificial Plants Make Sense Now with California Water Restrictions

California drought takes toll

California drought takes toll

Governor Jerry Brown just announced new California water restrictions due to the ongoing severe drought in the state. Artificial plants, including artificial hedges, artificial trees, flowers, and bushes now make more sense than ever. California’s drought has lasted for over five years now, and spring snow pack levels are once again dismally low. It is going to be a long, hot summer in California.

“People should realize we are in a new era. The idea of your nice little green lawn getting watered every day, those days are past,” Brown said at a news conference addressing the new water restrictions.  In 2014, Governor Brown asked California residents to voluntarily cut their water consumption, but that didn’t happen. Now, with mandatory water restriction California residents and businesses are going to have to comply this summer.

Many California residents have already started switching their old habits. The state offer rebates and incentives for people to remove their sod yards and replace them with water wise landscaping. Artificial plants can replace some water dependent live plants and can be mixed in with native California succulents, which do well with little water.

California Water Restrictions

  • Rates to be raised for heavy water users
  • State encourages removal of sod yards
  • Municipalities must reduce usage by 25 percent
  • Parks and golf courses must cut consumption
  • Residents encouraged to switch to water wise appliances

Artificial plants can simulate a green look when implemented into water-wise landscaping, once traditional sod lawns are removed. Residents may replace traditional green grass lawns with decorative stone, artificial grass, artificial plants, and live native succulents.  As Governor Brown said, the days of watering green lawns every day are over.

Geranium Street Floral is a California company that is dedicated to helping California residents cut their water consumption. They sell and install a whole line of artificial boxwood hedges, artificial trees, and combination living walls. Outdoor artificial plants are UV rated and designed to withstand California’s intense sunlight without fading and deteriorating.

“We realize that many people are not used to water wise landscaping, and they want the green look. They don’t like artificial grass for various reasons, but they do like our artificial boxwood hedges and trees, that don’t contain any lead,” said Bob Smith, president of Geranium Street Floral. “People all over the state are calling us, as they alter their landscapes, due to the new California water restrictions, added Smith.

Geranium Street Floral is having an artificial cherry blossom festival just in time for the spring wedding season.  Washington DC, the nation’s capital marks the beginning of spring with the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival on April, 11. In honor of that, Geranium Street is having their first annual Artificial Cherry Blossom Festival in San Diego.

“We have just received a shipment of beautiful cherry blossom trees from China,” said Geranium Street president, Bob Smith. “I attended the big trade show in China last year, and this was one of the most exciting products I saw. We have been waiting for months for these to arrive, and they are finally here,” added Smith.

Unfortunately, real cherry blossoms are only around for a finite period of time. The cherry blossom is especially important in Japanese culture. Geranium Street has three different sizes of cherry blossom trees, including 4’, 5’, and 6’. They can be placed in different types of planters. People often mix different sizes to create a natural look, or they can choose a more uniform look by using several of the same size. Artificial cherry blossom trees look great with other types of artificial plants, including artificial topiaries, artificial bushes and hedges, and other artificial flowers.

Faux foliage is popular among many wedding planners in Southern California and elsewhere. Martina Lopez of San Diego is a wedding planner who has seen an increase in demand for artificial flowers and trees at weddings.  Many of my clients are requesting that we create story book settings, even in their own back yards. The artificial cherry blossom tree is very hot right now for weddings,” said Lopez.

Artificial Hedge Wall Solutions

Artificial Hedge Wall Solutions

Artificial hedge wall at Seaport Village

Installing an artificial hedge wall to block out unwanted views or for privacy purposes is one solution for such problems. Real boxwood hedges have provided seclusion and privacy at majestic estates for centuries.  It is not always possible or practical for many people to have a real boxwood hedge, but it is possible for them to install an artificial hedge.

New manufacturing techniques have produced artificial hedge mats that are uncannily realistic. Made from durable polyurethane, artificial hedge mats are easy to assemble and affix to many kinds of flat surfaces. The finished product looks attractive and surprisingly realistic. The beauty is that artificial hedge, once installed, requires almost zero maintenance, other than a quick hose off now and then.

The top manufacturers of artificial hedge mats have produced several different varieties of faux hedges.  Artificial boxwood mats come in different thicknesses, colors, and leaf styles. Artificial living wall mats, artificial ivy mats, and artificial succulent mats are also available. Artificial plant mats are sold by the square foot and often come in boxes of 100 square feet.

Artificial Hedge Wall Uses

  • Fence extensions
  • Privacy screens
  • Accent and trim
  • Interior décor
  • Acoustics

Artificial boxwood hedge walls can actually improve the acoustics in yards, patio areas, and other enclosed spaces. Any enclosed area where echoes are a problem can benefit from the installation of artificial hedge material. The texture of artificial plant mats absorbs sound instead of just deflecting it. A pool area, for instance surrounded by flat block walls can be an echo chamber. Artificial hedge mats can help that problem.

Geranium Street Floral of San Marcos, California has been supplying customers with artificial plant mats for the past few years. The company has emerged as a top distributor of artificial hedge wall material in the United States. They currently stock and sell on their online store nine different types of artificial hedge mats.

In addition, Geranium Street has perfected installation techniques of artificial plant materials. They have done dozens of custom installations throughout California and Nevada, and have consulted many contractors and architects. They also build custom artificial hedges for sale and rent at their facility in San Diego County.

Spring is fast approaching and many people in Southern California are updating their landscaping with artificial foliage.  Artificial plants are now manufactured to last longer and look more realistic than ever before. Artificial boxwood hedge, artificial topiaries, and artificial trees are water wise and look great by themselves or mixed with live plants. In drought stricken California, artificial plants also make sense because they are water-wise.

Artificial hedge is very popular and can be used to cover block walls, wooden fences, or ecven cahin link fences. People also are able to extend the height of their fences with artificial hedge, increasing their privacy and security. Free standing artificial hedges can be constructed also, often for less money than traditional walls and fences.

Many people are looking for ideas to decorate their decks and balconies, and artificial foliage often comes up as an option. Artificial trees, fake flowers, and artificial topiaries might be just the thing to add that special stylistic flair. As I mentioned before, artificial plants blend well with existing live plants. Some companies are even designing landscape pieces using artificial and live plants.

Artificial ivy, artificial succulents, and artificial living walls are other products that are available to create a memorable landscape. “Some of these products just blew my mind when I saw them at the trade show in China last year,” said Bob Smith, president of Geranium Street Floral. “I bought several different types of artificial plant mats and our customers are really excited,” added Smith.
